Man dies after falling from tower crane
A tower crane operator who fell nearly 70 feet from a tower crane today has died.The accident was reported about 11:30 a.m. on Third Avenue, between Bell and Battery streets, in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle. The man, in his 40s, was climbing a ladder down from the crane when he fell and landed on concrete below, said Seattle Fire spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick.The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition and later died. Fire at Kirkland Thai restaurant causes $350,000 in damage
A fire broke out late Sunday night at a Thai restaurant in downtown Kirkland, causing $350,000 in damage, the Kirkland Fire Department said.The two-alarm fire, which occurred at City Thai in Parkplace shortly before 11:30 p.m., burned the kitchen, part of the roof and most of the inside furnishings, according to the Kirkland Fire Department. Teen killed in Kent
Kent police are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy today.The teen was with a 17-year-old inside an East Hill neighborhood apartment when the shooting occurred, said Kent police spokesman Paul Petersen. The older boy lives at the home, police said.Police Chief Steve Strachan said investigators are looking into why there was a gun in the home. Man in Eastern Oregon jumps from moving SUV to his death
Police say a Milton-Freewater man died after jumping from a vehicle driven by his wife while their two young children were in the back seat.It happened when the couple was northbound on Oregon 11 Friday night, and the SUV was doing 40 to 50 miles per hour.Police say alcohol was a contributing factor but gave no other explanation.Read the Seattle Times article…

Man dies in climbing accident at Redmond’s Smith Rock State Park
A 55-year-old Washington man lost his footing and fell 100 feet to his death when he and two friends were descending a steep part of Smith Rock State Park near Redmond.Authorities say Jim Anglin was an experienced rock climber and his climbing partners were outfitted with appropriate climbing gear when the accident occurred.Anglin, who was 55, was from White Salmon, Washington.Read the Seattle Times article…

Special traffic patrols a success, police say
In the six months since the first souped-up Seattle police cruisers hit the streets, longtime hot spots for speeding and aggressive driving have grown noticeably more quiet, police say.Sgt. Steve Ameden said traffic officers were regularly seeing speeders traveling 20 miles over the speed limit on the Aurora Bridge, Admiral Way in West Seattle and elsewhere. But because of the new aggressive-driving squad, Ameden believes the city is seeing less of a problem with aggressive driving and excessive speed.”When you have 10 officers who are going to these same places a couple of times a week, people see you,” Ameden said. “They start to expect it.”
